Employee Onboarding plays a critical role in making career transitions much smoother. It is a dynamic process of getting new hires attuned to the culture, skills and knowledge needed to perform well in the new role and the company. Here is how we do it at #HeroGaming #Love #Dare #Win #Onboarding #NewHires #EmployeeOnboarding #EmployeeValueProposition

Some time ago I posted a picture of our Welcome Kit for our new Heroes on LinkedIn, it went viral within an hour and that got me thinking. Is giving a great experience only about merchandise and hardware offered to your employees?

While having the latest tools available, amazing benefits, a fancy office & much more plays an important part of your organisation’s Employee Value Proposition, the overall onboarding experience is just as important.

Employee Onboarding plays a critical role in making career transitions much smoother. It is a dynamic process of getting new hires attuned to the culture, skills and knowledge needed to perform well in the new role and the company. In onboarding both the ‘big things’ and the ‘little things’ matter….

At Hero Gaming we have established an Onboarding Plan with the idea of offering a great experience to all our new Heroes. We want to enable them with the right tools, skills and confidence to do an amazing job! This is how we do it….

1. Tech in HR

We have automated our Onboarding process by integrating this with our HR Software. The idea is to have most of paperwork and routine tasks all set-up beforehand!

2. Setting Expectations

The first few weeks are a critical period which pretty much determine how the rest of their experience will go. Prior to their first day, we ensure they get a good idea of what to expect in their first weeks as a Hero, so they join us with the right mindset and guidance.

3. A Welcome Fit for Heroes

It is important for us to make our new Heroes first day a special one. We introduce them to their co-workers, prepare their Hero Welcome Kit and make sure they have a fully functional work station; ensuring they are all set to go! We pre-schedule 1-on-1 meetings with our key employees and plan job shadowing – it’s important to get all our new hires integrated and up to speed and understand how their role fits the big picture at Hero Gaming!

4. Orientation Day

We plan an Orientation Day at our Operations Centre in Malta for all our new Heroes, where we plan a number of activities and bring all new joiners together. We even fly over our fellow heroes from our Experience Centre in Malmo! Fun, fun, fun!

5. Setting Milestones

We recognise that onboarding takes place over time! We have 6-week check-ins with new Heroes, where we ensure our Heroes are comfortable, happy and engaged. Their manager also has bi-weekly 1-on-1’s – where goals, feedback, guidance and development needs are discussed on a regular basis.

Employee Onboarding is a continuous process which starts before our New Heroes first day and goes way beyond the Welcome Kit and great benefits. Creating a great onboarding experience is all about setting up our New Heroes on the path to success, guiding new hires to become experts at what they do… so together we can reach new heights.
